Tennis Legend Roger Federer on Title Tear

Nov. 14 -- Sixteen-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer is experiencing a resurgence at the end of what could only be described as a tough year, by his tennis standards.

After defeating Japan’s Kei Nichikori in the indoor tournament held in his hometown, Basel, Switzerland, the Swiss went on to take the Paris Masters from Jo-Wiliford Tsonga.

In Basel, Federer took home the trophy for the fifth time in six years. He beat 21-year old Nichikori 6-1, 6-3 who was playing Federer for the first time. The young wild card took only six points off the Swiss’ serve and only managed a break point in the last game.

In Paris, hard-serving Tsonga fell 6-1, 7-6(3) as Federer won his first Paris Masters title and the 69th his career. The Frenchman won the tournament in 2008, but suffered through too many unforced forehand errors.

The Swiss will conclude the season without a Grand Slam title for the first time since 2002, and his ranking has dropped to No. 4.

In terms of his historical legacy, the 18th Masters victory puts him one ahead of Andre Agassi and one behind all-time leader, Rafael Nadal.

Next up is the eight-man ATP World Tour Finals in London next week.
