Soderling Defeats Federer in Abu Dhabi Tournament

Jan. 2 -- Robin Söderling secured his first victory over the world no. 1, Roger Federer, at their thirteenth career matchup in Abu Dhabi yesterday to reach the final of the Capitala World Championship.

The Swede gained the crucial break over the Swiss in the third game of the deciding set and then saved four break points in the next game before breaking again to set up a 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 victory.

Söderling will face Rafael Nadal in the final after the world No 2 defeated David Ferrer, his fellow Spaniard, 7-6, 6-3. The winner of the grandly named exhibition tournament will take home $250,000.
