Andy Roddick wins Brisbane International

Jan. 11 -- Top-seeded Andy Roddick won a pair of tiebreakers Sunday in winning the Brisbane International tennis tournament title over Radek Stepanek in Australia.

Roddick claimed his 28th career ATP championship with a 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (9-7) decision over Stepanek, who won the event last year. Roddick ended the week 5-0 in tiebreakers.

Neither player managed a service break in the first set, although Stepanek was forced to save five break-point situations and Roddick claimed the advantage in the tiebreaker. He moved out to a 5-2 lead in the second set but Stepanek ran off four consecutive games. Roddick held serve to make the score 6-6 and jumped ahead 6-1 in the tiebreaker. Stepanek fought off five match points and had a set point when a Roddick shot was ruled long, a call the American argued.

But Roddick won the next point and edged ahead 8-7 with an overhead slam before the match ended with Stepanek's seventh double fault of the day.
