Nalbandian Out of Australian Open Due to Injury

Jan. 13 -- Former Wimbledon runner-up David Nalbandian decided to pull out of the 2010 Australian Open, citing an abdominal muscle injury.

The former world No. 3 Argentine star suffered the injury while warming up for a match against German Philipp Kohlschreiber in Auckland on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old oft-injured Nalbandian was set to return to the ATP World Tour this week after being sidelined for eight months after undergoing hip surgery last May.

Nalbandian reached at least the quarterfinals at the Aussie Open from 2003-06, but hasn't traveled past the fourth round there since.

The Australian Open will commence on Jan. 18.
