Murray Withdraws from Shanghai Tennis Tournament

Oct. 8 -- Third-ranked Andy Murray was advised to rest his injured wrist and has withdrawn from next week's ATP masters tournament in Shanghai, China.

The injury to Murray's left wrist was first addressed prior to the U.S. Open. After recent examinations, doctors informed Murray he should rest the injury for an additional 2-3 weeks. According to a message on his Web site, Murray is looking forward to returning to action in the Valencia Open, which begins Nov. 2 in Spain.

Murray has won five times on the ATP tour this year and was ranked No. 2 in the world for three weeks in August before Rafael Nadal moved past him again.
