Malaysian Tennis Open to Feature Top ATP Stars

July 26 -- The Malaysian Open tennis championships will showcase a star-studded line-up of ATP World Tour stars when held at Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil from Sept 23-Oct 3.

Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko, the world No. 6 will be back in Kuala Lumpur to defend his crown. Other confirmed to appear are this year’s French Open runner-up Robin Soderling of Sweden (world No. 5), Wimbeldon finalist Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic (No. 8), David Ferrer (No. 12), Mikhail Youzhny (No. 14), Nicolas Almagro (No. 18), Marcos Baghdatis (No. 25), former Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt (No. 30) and Asia’s top ranked player Lu Yen-Hsun of Taiwan (No. 41).

The tournament, which was officially launched yesterday by Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, on behalf of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, will feature a 28-player singles main draw and 16 doubles pairs. Up to 32 players will compete in the qualifying rounds for the four spots in the main draw.
