Juan Carlos Ferrero Wins ATP Croatia Open

August 1 — Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero won the ATP Croatia Open on Sunday in straight sets over Italy's Potito Starace.

The fourth seed came through 6-4, 6-4 against the Italian, ranked 64th, to make up for the disappointment of last year when he finished runner-up to Russia's Nikolay Davydenko.

The 2003 French Open champion claimed his third claycourt trophy of the year. Before the Croatia Open final, Ferrero had a 5-1 record against Starace.

The 29-year-old Italian was bidding for his first title in his third final after finishing runner-up in Valencia and Kitzbuhel in 2007.
