James Blake Defeated in ATP Tennis Opener

August 3 -- Former ATP Tour champion James Blake, battling back from a knee problem that sidelined him for two months, lost to fellow American Ryan Sweeting in the first round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic.

Blake, who won the event in 2002, was trying to ride on a recent best finish in Los Angeles last week, but Sweeting prevailed 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The former world No. 4 Blake has now lost opening matches at six of 12 events this season.
